D-Light Residency Award 2020

Bob Gallagher

We are so pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2021 D-Light Studios Residency Award is Bob Gallagher!

Bob is a director, writer and cinematographer based in Dublin. He has been declared a ‘Good Soldier of Cinema’ by Werner Herzog and 'One of the premiere creative forces in the visual arts' by Totally Dublin (October 2019).

During his residency, Bob developed and produced a performance for Musictown 2021. Aiteach: Cú Chulainn to the Quare Fellow was an exploration of sexual identities in Irish music and literary traditions. Lead by filmmaker-turned-balladeer Bob Gallagher and filmed at Dublin’s Hugh Lane Gallery, a group of musicians (Ronan Kealy of Junior Brother, Claire Kinsella of Lemoncello, and multi-instrumentalist Gareth Quinn Redmond) will perform songs drawn from archival research, with guest appearances from Sallay Garnett (Loah) and Pamela Connolly (Pillow Queens), as well as spoken word performances by poets Jane Clarke and FeliSpeaks.
