THE CENTRE FOR CREATIVE PRACTICES & D-LIGHT STUDIOS PRESENTS

A solo show of experimental film and installations by visual artists, environmentalist and activist - Leia Mocan.

Climate change, human nature and otherness are the main topics of Leia’s recent works in which she presents her commitment to sustainability and ongoing exploration of her Romanian heritage and personal identity. A sharp wit, exaggeration and visual experiments are the characteristics of Leia’s artistic language. Leia uses only upcycled materials to produce her works.

The show features six experimental films produced between 2019 and 2023, an immersive installation, THE MASS OF DARKNESS and a live performance by the artist THE DIARY OF A COTTON THREAD, that will be shown on the opening night, the 14th Dec, 6pm to 9pm

THE MASS OF DARKNESS is a series of immersive, interactive sculptural works to be experienced through touch only. Visitors will explore the pieces in darkness, relying on senses other than sight and promoting a unique perception and empathy with those who are visually impaired. This initiative strives to forge a deeper connection and dialogue around inclusivity and accessibility.

THE MASS OF DARKNESS installation is open till the 23rd of December.

Included films:

INSTRUCTIONS I, 2019, duration: 3 min, 58 sec, depicting the consequences of “not looking back” and our destructive behaviour in relation to the natural world.

Umbilical Cord,2020, 2019, 14 min, 39 sec.
