The Connected Community - Book Launch

HOW CAN WE BE TOGETHER TODAY TO FORM AN EXCEPTIONAL FUTURE WITH AND FOR EVERYONE IN OUR COMMUNITIES?

Following a successful formal launch to a packed St. Patrick's Cathedral last year, D-Light Studios is very proud to present a panel discussion and audience participation evening with Cormac Russell.

Cormac’s book explores and presents the concepts behind ABCD - Asset-Based Community Development: this model demonstrates that local assets (people and physical assets) and individual strengths, are key to ensure sustainable community development.  It focuses on the community's own assets and resources as the basis for development and it empowers the people by encouraging everyone to use what they already possess.

The panel will be hosted by David McAuley CEO of Donore Credit Union - Ireland's oldest credit union - and will include D-Light Studios' Creative Director, guardian and multi-disciplinary artists, Stacey Gill.

Cormac is a social explorer, author and  highly sought after international speaker. He is the Founding Director of Nurture Development and a member of the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) Institute, at DePaul University, Chicago.  Over the last 25 years, Cormac’s work has demonstrated an enduring impact in 35 countries around the world. He has trained communities, agencies, NGOs and governments in ABCD and other community-based approaches in Africa, Asia, Australia/Oceania, Europe and North America.

His most recent books are The Connected Community- Discovering the Health, Wealth, and Power of Neighborhoods (Coauthor John McKnight); Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2022, and Rekindling Democracy – A Professional’s Guide to Working in Citizen Space; Cascade Books, 2020.

D-Light Studios is an artist led and driven space that has evolved with fine arts and creative practices as a foundation for exploration, understanding and true holistic progress.  We believe each individual possesses an immense capacity for creativity and the ABCD lens for life has been a key inspiration for our vision, direction and decisions over the last 15 years.  Our distinguished Artist Residency Program grew from our early encounters with ABCD and now we are very grateful to have found Cormac at this crucial time in our quest as we try to find our place and service in our local community.  We have grown together as artists, creatives, social entrepreneurs and well being professionals and we continue to support a diverse range of community initiatives.

We invite you to come and be part of this essential conversation that we hope will shift our perspectives and bring us closer by giving us insights into how to live, collaborate and progress together here in the NEIC.

There are limited spaces for people so please RSVP gill@d-lightstudios.com
